Step #1: Download & Install

• Download and save the setup package, then run to install. To run, you can press Windows + E to open Windows Explorer, then locate the downloaded file and double-click on it.
• After installing, run ScreenHunter 7 Pro from the Windows Start menu, or the icon on your desktop.

Step #2: Using the capture tab
You can pick a hotkey to start
A hotkey is a keyboard shortcut that allows you to capture quicker. F6 is ScreenHunter’s default image capture hotkey; however, you can choose any key combination or a single key as your hotkey. You can always click the Capture Now button to capture.
In this example, we selected the Rectangular area in the Screen group and changed the settings by clicking the button on the right.



In the Add group, select Cursor.

Step #3: Choose Where to Save Your Capture: "Save Image"

• In this example, we went to the Save Image tab, and selected Clipboard to copy the capture to the Windows Clipboard, and selected Editor so we can edit the capture directly after.
• In the Image Files group, select PNG to save as a PNG file.
• Selecting Automatic for the filename creates an automatic name for the file. To change the format, click the filename button to the right.

Step #4: Capture

• To capture, click Capture Now, which is the camera button at the top

  Press your hotkey on your keyboard, F6 in this case, to capture immediately.
  
• Click and hold down the mouse button, then drag to select an area on screen. Release the mouse button to capture.
• If you have selected the Adjust feature on the Rectangular Area Settings dialog, the selected area is then highlighted. You can use your mouse or arrow keys to adjust the size of the area and click the camera button to capture an image. Also, you can press Enter or the Space bar on your keyboard to capture.

Step #5: Get Your Screenshot

• Find your capture. In this case, it is on your Desktop.
  
  
• If you used another location to save your captures, open Windows Explorer
  (press Windows + E). Go to your file folder assigned in Step #3 to pick up your file.
• The capture is also copied to your Clipboard so that you can paste to another program, such
  as MS Word by using Ctrl+V or pasting.
  

To Cancel
Press the Esc key or right-click the mouse button at any time to cancel. In the Adjust mode, you can click the cancel button on screen to cancel.

Recording a video uses many similar settings and operations as capturing an image.

Step #1 & #2 are the same as Capturing an Image.

Step #3: Choose Where to Save Video: "Save Video”

• In this example, on the Save Video tab, check Sound to record audio in your video, and choose a Quality and your specific Frame rate.
• In the Video File group, check MP4 to save as an MPEG-4 file.
• Select Automatic for the filename and click the filename button to the right if you want to change the format.

Step #4: Record

• Click Record Now to record, which is the video button at the top.

  Press your hotkey on your keyboard, F8 by default, to start recording.
  
• In the Video File group, check MP4 to save as an MPEG-4 file.
• Press the left mouse button down and drag to select an area on the screen, then release the mouse button.
• If you have selected the Adjust feature on the Rectangular Area Capture Settings dialog, by releasing your mouse, the selected area is then highlighted. You can use your mouse or arrow keys to adjust the size of the area and click the video button to start recording.

To Stop When recording has started, the Record Now button will be changed to a Stop button.
You can click it to stop, or you can press the stop hotkey or Esc to stop. When recording, the flashing indicator can be shown and you may click the Stop button at the bottom to stop.

Step #5: is the same as Capture Image.

ScreenHunter can capture or record a covered window, even if it's minimized or covered by another program. This is useful when you need to capture a specific window periodically, and it's sometime minimized or covered so that you may work on other things.

1. Choose Window in the Screen group on the Capture tab.
   
   
   
2. Click the button on the right to show the Windows Capture Settings dialog. Choose Specific window.
   
   
   
3. Click the refresh button to show the list of windows.

You can now capture or record this window.


This is application dependent, so not all windows can be captured this way. Please make sure to use Aero Themes



When choosing Specific window capture, on Windows 7, the mouse pointer cannot be added to the captured image or recorded video.

ScreenHunter 7 can capture multiple windows, buttons on a window and menu blocks. Here are the steps:

1. Select Window in the Screen group and click the button on the right to show the Windows Capture Settings dialog. Choose Any window, button, menu, etc. and check Multiple to capture more than one object.
   
   
2. Press your hotkey on your keyboard or click Capture Now to capture. When capturing multiple objects, click the left mouse button to add an object, and press Enter or Space bar on your keyboard to finish.
   E.g. to capture three objects on the Windows Explorer as shown below:
   

For some application dependent menus, you may need to choose Full screen to capture the full screen with your menu and crop it in the Image Editor.

You can make captured images transparent, and save them to transparent PNG files.

This is an example of how you may use transparent editing tools.

You can use a transparent PNG file as your watermark. ScreenHunter 7 will automatically set the background transparent for a transparent PNG file.

1. Make sure your image file is a transparent PNG file, either created by an image editor such as Photoshop, Fireworks, or downloaded from the web.
   
   
2. Click Watermark settings button to show the Watermark Settings dialog. Then click the file locator at top to find and load your PNG file.
   If the PNG file has a transpent background, it will be done automatically.
   
   
   
3. Choose Visual Options to further define how your image will be shown as watermark on your captures or recoded videos.
   
   
   This is an example of your watermark shows transparently on your screen capture.

Step-by-step Example
"I want to auto-scroll and capture a long web page, for example, IE showing "Google News" (IE 11 on Windows 7)"

1. On the Capture tab, choose F6 only as the Capture image hotkey and select Auto scroll in the Screen group. Start with the default Speed, Faster on the right. The speed is the time to allow the scrolled part to appear properly after each scroll. The scrolling speed also depends on the machine and content of the window. You may need to adjust this.
   
   
   
2. On the Save Image tab, check Editor. (It's not necessary to have any files checked at the same time.)
3. Make sure Google News is showing in IE and pause any moving objects like videos, etc., and wait for any animation to finish.
   Now, press my hotkey, F6, and move the mouse to find a scrollable object. A scrollable object is a child window, which is the smallest window containing the scrollable content. In this case, this is the IE showing "Google News".
4. Press the left-mouse button to start auto-scrolling. If the window is not scrollable, a warning message is displayed. If the window contains large and complex content, or the machine is slow, changing the Speed to a slower one may help in scrolling.

Controlled Scroll/Cancellation
Right-click the mouse button to stop auto-scrolling and capture the scrolled part so far. You can use this to control where to start and finish in order to capture a specific part of a large scrollable window.

For web pages:
Google Chrome and IE can scroll, FireFox and Edge don't scroll in many cases.


For a Word or Excel file, you can save the file in the HTML format. And then use Google Chrome or IE to load the HTML file to be auto-scrolled.

ScreenHunter can schedule any date and time to capture or record your screen in the future or periodically. It is available when Fixed area, Window (Active or Specific window), or Full screen is selected in the Screen group.

Step-by-step Example
"I need to record an area of my screen every morning starting at 9:30 am for 30 minutes."

1. On the Capture tab, select Fixed area in the Screen group.
   
   
   Click the button on the right to set up the area on the screen that you want to record.
   
2. Check Schedule in the Timer group.
   
   
   And click the button on the right to show the Scheduled Capture Settings dialog.
   
3. Choose Video in the Type group to record a video. In the Start at group click the drop-down to select the date and time. Type or press the up and down arrows to set the hour, minute and second.
   
   
4. Because this is a video, on the Save Video tab, check Stop after in the Video Length group and enter 30 min.
   
   
5. That’s it. ScreenHunter will record at the set time.
   
   

You can use the Timer feature to set up your PC to record automatically when a user, such as an employee or your child, logs in to a PC, or just to monitor your PC activities.

To set up,

1. Make sure ScreenHunter 7 Pro will start automatically when your Windows starts up or when you log in. Click here for how.
   
2. Use the same steps #1, #2 above (Scheduled / recurring recording guide) to use Schedule.
   
3. Set a date and time in the past for Start at. In the End group, choose End at, and set the exact date and time as in the Start at.
   

The setup is now complete. You can exit ScreenHunter, and close your Windows.

You can use ScreenHunter to capture full screen games. Here are the steps:

1. On the Capture tab, check Use hotkeys in the Hotkeys group, and click the Settings… button on the right to choose your Capture image hotkey, say, F6. It's recommended to use a simple function key to capture game screens.
   
   
2. On the Save Image tab, check Editor. (It's not necessary to have any files checked at the same time. If you want a file at the same time, choose the BMP format, that's the fastest.)
   
   
3. On the Options tab, in the After Capture group, uncheck Show a brief message, Show the saved file names, and Bring Image Editor to front.
   
   
4. It's now ready, and you can run your full screen game.
   
   
5. When running the game, press your hotkey, F6, on your keyboard to capture full screen game. The images will be sent to Editor.

   In Windows 7, some games require you to turn off Aero. You can turn off Aero and run your game again in the Windows 7 Basic theme.

Step-by-step Example

1. In ScreenHunter 7 Pro, make sure to check Clipboard in the Send Image To group on the Save Image tab. (Not necessary to choose any Image Files)
2. In your email, say Outlook, make sure to set it as an HTML email.
3. Use ScreenHunter 7 to take a screenshot. You may use a hotkey to capture.
4. Edit your capture in ScreenHunter 7 Pro Image Editor.
5. Select, copy and paste the image to your HTML email.

ScreenHunter can send your capture directly to the default email outbox without human intervention.
Say, for example, you want to monitor your PC activities every 10 minutes, you can use auto-capture to capture a screen every 10 minutes and email it automatically. This way, you can monitor your PC activities anywhere in the world.

Step-by-step Example
"I have Outlook on my machine as my regular email. I want to send captures automatically."

1. In Outlook, set to Send/Receive messages every 10 minutes.
2. Check Capture every in the Timer group on the Capture tab. Set to capture every 10 minutes.
3. Check Email on the Save Image tab to send a captured image as an attachment, and choose an image file format in the Image Files group.
4. On the Email Settings dialog, choose Send automatically. Enter recipients’ email addresses in the To and CC field. Enter a subject and message.
5. You can send a test email to see if it works with your settings. Clicking Send a Test Email will check and send an email with a sample attachment to your email outbox.
   
   
6. The setup is finished. Now, press your hotkey to capture a screen.
7. After capturing, an email with your captured image attachment should be sent to the Outlook outbox. Since you have set Outlook to send an email every 10 minutes, the email will be sent automatically.

The automatic file naming feature is used to save captured images and videos with automatically generated file names, so you don't have to stop each time you capture.

Step-by-step Example
"I would like to press a hotkey and have ScreenHunter automatically capture what is in the active window, build it to a file and automatically create the file name without me being interrupted by having to select the window. This way, I can walk through an entire application process in order and later go back and gather the screens."

1. On the Capture tab, check Use hotkeys in the Hotkeys group, and click the Settings… button on the right to choose your Capture image hotkey, say, F6.
   In the Screen group, choose Window, and click the button on the right to choose Active window on the Window Capture Settings dialog.
2. On the Save Image tab, in the Image Files group, check JPG (in this case) to save. (It's not required to check Editor or Clipboard at the same time.)
   
   Choose Automatic for Filename.
   
   
   
   
3. Click the button on the right to show the Automatic Filenaming Settings dialog.
   
   
   Check Number of digits and choose 2 if you want to have a fixed number of digits, 01, 02, etc. Highlight an item in the Order list box and click the up and down buttons on the right to change the text sequence.
   
   
   The text can be set in any sequence, e.g. Note can be in the middle and User name can be in the front.
   
   Select Never overwrite so that when a newly generated filename already exists in the current folder it always generates a new filename automatically.
   
   
4. In the Folder area on the Save Image tab, click the folder button on the right and choose, such as the Desktop as your captured image location.
   
   
5. On the Options tab, in the After Capture group, uncheck Bring Image Editor to front.
   
   
6. It's now ready, and you can minimize ScreenHunter if you like.
   
   
7. Make sure your target window is active and has the focus. Then press your hotkey, F6, on your keyboard to capture.
   
   Go to your Desktop to find your capture.

ScreenHunter ScreenZoom provides a convenient way to magnify your screen anytime to see what's going on and draw lines and notes on the screen. This can be integrated into your demos, discussions, training sessions, etc. You also can "freeze" the screen and directly draw on it by using ScreenDraw.

To enlarge the screen, run ScreenZoom
Press your ScreenZoom hotkey to enlarge, and you can then draw or highlight it on screen.

To draw on the screen without ScreenZoom
Press your ScreenDraw hotkey to enter the mode, and you can then draw on screen.

You can press the following keys to change the color and pen size when drawing.


To cancel the ScreenZoom or ScreenDraw mode
Press one of the following to cancel:

• Press the ScreenZoom or ScreenDraw hotkey again
• Right-click the mouse
• The Esc key
• The Space key

Scenario: “I just now learned about your site from a link posted on a zdnet talkback. What is the procedure used with ScreenHunter to get a big map from screen to print?”

ScreenHunter 7 Pro supports multiple monitors and can capture large images. On the other hand, you can use the Image Editor to put multiple images together to make one big image.

Say you want to use image A, B and C to make a large new image N.

1. Create a new image, N, white, and make it as large as you need to hold 3 images.
2. Open all 3 images, A, B and C, in the Image Editor.
3. Click image A in Editor and click Ctrl+A to select all of image A. Then hit Ctrl+C to copy.
4. Click N in Editor and press Ctrl+V or the Paste button on the toolbar. Right after, rearrange the location of the pasted image A in N.
5. Repeat the steps of #3 to #5 for images B, and C.
6. Save N.

ScreenHunter Color Picker provides a convenient way to pick a color anywhere on your screen. It shows both the RGB and hexadecimal color code.

When you pick a color for your font, boxed lines, etc., you can always access the color picker.
